The Jungle Book 2 is a 2018 Indian Hindi-language fantasy adventure film directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the sequel to Disney's 1967 animated film The Jungle Book, which was based on Rudyard Kipling's eponymous collection of stories. The film stars Neel Sethi and Bill Murray reprising his roles from the first film, along with Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken, Idris Elba and Lupita Nyong'o. It is the second film in the Disney Digital 3-D (2009) and IMAX (2009) series, following 2016's The Jungle Book. Talks for a sequel to The Jungle Book began in 2014, when Favreau stated that he had an idea for a sequel and was waiting for Disney's greenlight. Principal photography commenced in September 2017 at Pinewood Toronto Studios and lasted until January 2018. It was one of the first English-language feature films to be shot in India. The film was released in India on April 6, 2018, and in the United States on April 15. After Mowgli's parents are killed by Shere Khan, his beloved bear Baloo helps him to leave the jungle to live with Bagheera and Kaa. Meanwhile, Shere Khan tracks Mowgli down in their old jungle home. Bagheera discovers them fighting but is too late to save Mowgli from being dragged off by Shere Khan. The film opens in 1937 in Washington, D.C. First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt appears at the unveiling of a new statue. A family watches the ceremony on television, is inspired to travel to India, and is shown landing in Mumbai. Years later in India, Mowgli has grown up without his parents, is living with Bagheera and Baloo after being found by them shortly after leaving the jungle as a baby. The three live in a tree house in a vast jungle next to a dry riverbed. Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera are joined by other animals in the jungle. One day, an old brown bear, Guru, appears at the river bank, where the other animals are resting. Baloo greets him by offering bananas. Guru then suggests that they visit a nearby village called Kasmir to buy food for Mowgli's birthday. The four set out and reach town with enough money to feed Mowgli and all the other villagers. The village has a modern-day highway built with concrete walls and cars but no visible defenses.
